John took on the job and I went away with my husband to Lourdes for a week.Unaware of the major job taking place back home.I called to a neighbor who had been feeding our cat and she said to me your kitchen is amazing. When I walked in the door I was taken back with the absolute beauty and craftmanship of my new floor..I am absolutely delighted with all his hard work, taking up of the old tiles, the worktop alteration and press door alteration and the fact there was no cleaning up to do made the whole thing outstanding..The centre piece really put a lovely finish to the floor and I couldnt be any more satisfied with Johns work..Thank you Philomena McCormack..Clonard Co-Meath

I am afraid there is only one John The Handyman, no franchise, no employees, I am the one who answers the phone, calls to your home, formulates your quote, completes the work and therefore is the one who makes sure its done right. A New Year A New Dawn posted on Tue the 12th of Jan 10 @ 15:02

Another year older another year wiser was what my father used to say to me. Well I will remember 2009 as a huge leaning curve for me and my business. The year started off very well with an office makeover at Citizens Information Balbriggan, painting Realex Payments premises in Monkstown and Pat Kiernan, landlord, paying the bills in January/February. Then the fun started! As things took a downturn people lost confidence in the banks, the economy and the government and business dried up over the following months. As I really started to struggle along with a lot of other people in the country I noticed something that had been missing in our society started to reemerge. A number of people, customers, friends, family, even the people I talk to from the various companies that supply John The Handyman helped me get back on track again. They genuinely cared that things were not going well and they did their best to help. As a result I have weathered the storm and I am still hanging on in and looking forward to a better year in 2010. To all these people and you the customer, without you I would have no business, for this I would like to sincerely thank you for keeping me doing what I love. Look forward to talking to you soon.

New Gallery for Xmas 09 posted on Mon the 30th of Nov 09 @ 20:19

I am delighted to announce that Stephen (the genius behind this website) has excelled himself and gave me an early Christmas present. The old gallery wasnt working and had just become an endless collection of pictures with little or no structure. The all new super duper gallery gives me total control of content, allowing me to put pictures into sets and add a description to each photo. This, I feel, is a major improvement and the gallery will grow and add greatly to the quality of service I can offer to my customers. Since this website was only a twinkle in my eye we have worked extremely hard to add new features and continuously strive to improve. The news page is one such innovation, followed by the testimonial page and now the fantastic new gallery. I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to my good friend Stephen.

Take a pen in hand and grab a piece of paper this is the first step in getting rid of all that stress. I have being working in Dalkey all week for Coral who made me feel so welcome. Driving down costs posted on Thu the 12th of Mar 09 @ 16:21

Everybody has to economise during tough times. So if you are in business for yourself it is also very important to keep your premises properly maintained to project the right image for your customers and to attract new business. A very economical way to do this is to have the paint in your premises touched up. It is far cheaper than having the whole place painted and can usually be completed in one day. This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your premises and not to be missed. I already perform this service regularly for different companies around Dublin who call on me a few times a year and it proves out to be very cost effective. Also if you would like to sign up to my office maintenance program, which can include maintaining the grounds, I am offering a half days maintenance free if you sign up for six monthly half day maintenance visits? So if you want to make a free enquiry about this service or any other please contact me by phone or email and we can take it from there.

La Fheile Padraig posted on Sun the 8th of Mar 09 @ 22:21

St Patricks Day is nearly upon us already. St. Patrick was born in Wales in the 4th century. He was captured by Irish raiders and was brought back to Ireland. He spent six years as a prisoner herding pigs. He received a calling and later returned to Ireland and he is credited with converting the Irish people to Christianity . Nowadays we celebrate the 17th of March each year as Saint Patricks day. The Taoiseach traditionally presents a bowl of Shamrock at the White House. The day is marked with celebrations all over the world with parades taking place in many cities. Personally I enjoy spending the day with my family and maybe downing the odd pint of Guinness. It is also a good time to make a start on your home improvements for a number of reasons. The air temperature should now be a lot warmer enabling me to get back to painting outdoors again. So if your home has taken a battering from the winter storms I will call around for a free initial consultation and estimate for any work that you may need tackled in the spring. So have a great Patricks weekend and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Shrove Tuesday posted on Tue the 24th of Feb 09 @ 15:32

Shrove Tuesday or pancake day as my youngest daughter prefers to call it marks the start of lent. It is one of my favourite nights of the year with great excitement and a mad scramble for pancakes. Once the batter has been made and a trip over to my local SuperQuinn to gather fresh supplies of nutella, ice cream and lemon juice, the fun begins. Who will have the first one this year? What yummy delights will they choose? How many will they be able to eat before they explode? It also marks the end of winter for me and business starts to pick up again. So once all the pancakes are tossed and the dishwasher (me) has washed the last dish. Then its time to put the kettle on and relax with a nice cup of tea. Secure in the knowledge that all the younger ones have full bellies and are switching their thoughts to what they are giving up for lent. So if you grab five minutes why not send me that email with your list of jobs, big or small that you want to get sorted before your mother comes out for Easter Sunday lunch.

First Signs of Spring posted on Sun the 8th of Feb 09 @ 18:37

I was out in the garden today enjoying the brilliant sunshine and I was amazed to see, despite the harsh winter weather of the last few weeks, the first signs of spring! I noticed in a sheltered corner, as the snow was thawing, the bulbs I had planted so many months earlier were making a brave appearance. Now that we are heading into spring and leaving the winter storms behind us it is time to sit down and draw up a list of jobs that you would like taken care of . The way to make the very best of the long evenings and warmer weather ahead is to take advantage of the spring. How about a beautiful Indian Sandstone Circle or a new raised bed and rockery to give your garden a new look? Or convert that garden shed into a usable space. Paint the outside of your home for an instant lift. A beautiful solid oak wooden floor or have your old one restored to its original beauty? If you would like to contact me for a free consultation you can use the contact form on the website, email, ring or text and I will arrange a suitable time to call around.

Happy New Year posted on Mon the 5th of Jan 09 @ 13:11

Well with all the celebrations over and the evenings officially getting longer I would just like to thank all the new friends and customers I got to meet this year. Despite all the doom and gloom reported in the media who seem to thrive on pedaling pessimistic stories rather than trying to suggest ways to improve things. Personally 2008 was a fantastic year for me. I was so busy I was working flat out from early March until mid November without a week off. January is off to a great start too with plenty of enquires flooding in. As far as I can see I do not think 2009 will be as bad as the media would like us to believe. I left school in 1985 and the country was a different place compared to now. I have noticed a big upturn in the number of people contacting me to refurbish their homes. It is amazing what can be done to modernise any home. Wooden floors are beautiful and enhance any room. Removing wallpaper and having a room professionally painted using modern colours from my new colour charts and then dressing the room to match can give you a whole new look for 2009. Now is a good time to landscape that corner of your garden that traps the sun so it is ready for the beautiful summer that I have on good authority is on the way. Contact me now so you will not be disappointed with availability.

Constantly asking him for changes and improvements. The website is a runaway success with an incredible 220,000 hits from 40,000 unique visitors so far this year. Do you know Oiche Samhain originated in Ireland as an ancient Celtic festival which signified the end of harvesting. The tradition was brought across The Atlantic to America by Irish immigrants in the nineteenth century. Now it is celebrated all over the world with the lighting of bonfires, trick or treating, fancy dress parties etc.It is a magical time with childrens minds filled with the images of wizards, wands, spells and potions and most importantly sweets. It is also the time of year that the clock goes back and we are heading into the cold winter months. High energy costs, gas, electricity, oil. Does your home feel cold ? Are you using too much gas to heat your home? The first step you can take to reduce your bills is to make sure you have the proper insulation in your attic. Why not make it a usable space while you are at it and get it floored too? Add a light . If you contact me I can arrange a visit and organise a quote for you. Have a great Halloween and I look forward to taking your call soon.

I was lucky enough to be involved with two projects recently both of which were located on Griffith Avenue not far from where I was dragged up as a child.Ulfat and Jim asked me to insulate and floor out their attic and repair, re plaster and paint a damaged ceiling. Dermot also contacted me and asked me to repaint the outside of his home at the other end of the Avenue the fourth generation of his family to live there. The house,as were others in the area, was designed by a German architect and built over ninety years ago. Feel free to browse the gallery which has photos of both these projects and contains nearly 200 photos of my work.
